Do-It-Yourself Room Divider Installation - Ceiling Tracks

We installed a room divider using IKEA VIDGA tracks, ceiling mounted, to show you how to do it yourself. Curtain track installation isn't complicated. Track systems may vary from brands to brands, but installation should be fairly similar. We picked IKEA for their easy access. The downside is the tracks only come in 55" pieces, it would require a connector in between two pieces. Most of the readily available tracks come in 4', 6' or 8' pieces. They can be cut with a handsaw into your desired lengths. Custom tracks can be made longer than 12', but there is a high risk of bending during transportation. Another tip when ordering curtain tracks is to check the maximum weight load. Heavyweight drapery requires durable heavy duty tracks.

Step 1. Prepare fasteners such as screws, anchors and etc. Depending on the surface you mount tracks onto, fasteners may vary. Consult your local hardware store to pick up fasteners that meet your needs.

Step 2. Measurement. Figure out the place where the tracks start and end. Hang a rope from the start to the end to make a straight line. Cut the tracks into desired lengths. If the track is one piece, mark the location along the line where you would like to have the mounting hardware. They are usually placed in the same distances. If the tracks are in two pieces or more, measure and mark the location of the connectors.

Step 3. Drilling and installation. Drill hole and screw the mounting hardware/connectors in. Mount tracks onto the hardware. If the tracks come with carriers installed, skip Step 4.

Step 4. Cap one end and leave the other end open. Slide in carriers according to the drapery hooks quantity. Close the caps. Some tracks include master carriers where you can put a baton. If the track doesn't have a master carrier, you can leave one extra carrier in between the 1st and 2nd carrier where the baton can go in.

Step 5. Hook on your drapery and attach the baton.

This is our second purchase in 5 years (our new puppy decided to eat one of our earlier drape panels). In our experience Loft has quality fabrics, excellent workmanship at a very reasonable price for custom drapery. I was able to get the same fabric from 5 years ago!

Loft Curtains have done an fabulous job with my recent order for 2 sets of custom Ripple Fold drapes. From the initial call to request samples to the communication around delivery, the customer service has been great. The product itself is beautiful. As a designer, I have high expectations and I was not disappointed. The fabrication quality is very well done and they hang beautifully. I would also say they offer good value for money for something so custom.

Ordered drapes and roman shade for our bedroom. The drapes were 208" wide and 96" tall - with a blackout backing. They look fantastic - the sewing and workmanship are top notch. Each piece is a continuous panel - not multiple panels sewn together. Beautiful fabric also. The Roman shade is just as nicely made. When I was a little unsure of the stack back and other rod questions I texted Loft and they got back to me within minutes. Answered any question and made sure my measurements were good. Great experience overall - plus saved almost 1/2 of what a local designer was proposing. Don't hesitate if you want excellent quality drapes/shades along with great support.
